24 hours in Thessaloniki
Thessaloniki has a special place in my heart. The ambiance is friendly, the pace is pleasant. Thessaloniki means modern and traditional life in one. About time to come and take a look! Why? Not in the last place because of the great food, which is finger licking good. But also because you can stroll along the boulevard. And also, it is never boring in Thessaloniki. Even on a perfectly normal Monday night the cafes are packed.

09.00: Time for a hearty breakfast
Do you have a full day ahead of you? Then you’d better start with a hearty breakfast. Greeks rush to a local ‘kafeteria’ just before work to get a fresh freddo espresso and … bougatsa! If you walk through the streets in the morning, this smell will meet you everywhere. After this warm delicacy you are up and running!
10.00: A walk aside the boulevard
You start your refreshing walk at the White Tower. Once the scene of war practices, but now the friendly city symbol. In his museum you will find everything about the history of the city. On the kilometers long boulevard you will meet all kinds of people. Plunge down on one of the many benches and enjoy the view over the sea and the harbor. And you will see, there is always someone who comes to have a chat with you.
13.00: A Greek lunch
The Greeks eat their warm main meal in the afternoon. Although most tourists settle in Ladadika, you can also choose something else for a change. For example ‘I kouzina tis Aglaias’, located at the Louloudadika square. It is located right in the center, but hidden behind an old church and various flower stalls. I prefer to eat the zucchini balls when I visit.
15.00: The Aristotle square
The Aristotle square is the meeting point for the local people of my beloved city. Surrounded by bars, restaurants and shops, this square is the beating heart of Thessaloniki. Be sure to visit the best bakery in Thessaloniki and surroundings: Terkenlis. They are best known for their trigona panoramatos. Take a preview here.
17.00 Shopping at the Tsimiski
Thessaloniki lends itself perfectly as a shopping destination. On the Tsimiski, the most famous shopping street, you will find all the shops you wish for. Do not step into the big international chains for a change. The little Greek stores are waiting to be discovered by you! The residents of Thessaloniki like to pay attention to their appearance. So the Tsimiski is also all about seeing and being seen.
20.00: A drink alongside the mezedes
Greek life is equal to enjoyment. And how to do this better than whilst enjoying a snack and a drink? In Thessaloniki, you can better stop your diet for a while. It is best to try different small snacks, mezedes, so you can taste everything. And while you watch the passing audience with a tsipouro in your hand, you know for sure: Thessaloniki is a treat for all your senses!
